====== Lord Aldous Hill ======
//“The man himself is a study in contradictions. A self proclaimed humanist able to discuss bible verse at length. A pacifist who carries a sidearm with accustomed familiarity. A renowned adventurer who appears more at easy in a laboritory tinkering with crystal toys.”// - Judith Coleridge, diary, 1882

{{:lord_aldous_hill.jpg?200 |}} Born in 1839, Lord Aldous Hill was the youngest son of the 13th Earl of Mosley. At school he was noted as a gifted student destined for a life in the sciences. But with the death of his brother Charles in the Indian Mutiny of 1857, the Earl of Mosley encouraged Hill to follow the family tradition of military service. Hill immediated joined the 67th Regiment of Foot and was deployed to the far East.

Up until 1860 he took part in the Arrow War, a bloody affair in which he was twice wounded. He was also awarded the Victory Cross for the bravery he displayed at the battles at Taku Forts.

After the war and disillusioned with military service, he mustered out. Across the late 1860s he travelled across Asia and it was during this period he met [[Jamling Sherpa]]. Also during this time he developed a passion for exploring, specifically to discover remanents of ancient civilizations.

During the 1870s he began a series of expeditions to investigate the legends of Atlantis and Lyonesse.
