Paragons
//"By what right do you try to improve your life at the expense of mine? That is the animal brain at work, not the human one. So I say to you, those who seek to elevate themselves above their fellows should be treated as an animal." - Lin Carl, 3917//

Using a hardline interpretation of the teachings of the Freeman Church, the Paragons were a theocracy that ruled the Belt from the 41st to 47th Centuries. They were the first organization to unify the peoples of the belt in a generally benevolent rule.

In the late 40th Century a number of independent Freeman habitats developed a different interpretation of the Freeman doctrine, that people who do not practice humanitarianism cannot be classed as human and therefore do not deserve the same rights. This "two tier" system became the basis for a political party called the Paragons. Under the repressive rule of the Jharn the Paragons were outlawed but this did not stop them becoming hugely popular.

In the 41st century the Jharn were in decline, allowing the Paragons to marshal a sizable military force in the Belt. This began the Paragon Uprising during which the Paragons struck at the Jharn centers of power across the solar system. They defeated the Jharn and, believing a large empire would be impractical, they withdrew to the Belt to consolidate their power. By the end of the 41st century the Paragons were firmly in control of the Belt.

It was Paragon forces that faced the AI threat of the Roid War in the 43rd century. Whilst they were ultimately successful the conflict weakened them, causing them to withdraw to areas of the Inner Belt.

In the 46th century Dratch found itself increasing in conflict with the Paragons, culminating with the Paragon-Dratch War in 4549. Dratch was victorious and the Paragons fractured early in the 47th Century, some areas becoming independent and other merging with the major Powers of the time.
