//“It is an interesting concept, to rule based upon wealth not ability. Though I suspect those leaders would argue that the acquisition of wealth goes hand-in-hand with an ability to control effectively.”// - Petter Orland, //History//, 6328

{{:renders:dratch_colour.png?200 |}}Dratch was one of the major powers in the [[Belt]] between the 45th and 50th Centuries. Dratch was a corporate plutocracy where society was controlled by corporations, be they led by individuals or boards.

In 4420 the original Dratch Corporation was founded, a merger of five of the major commercial entities in the [[Inner Belt]]. The Dratch Corporation began a rapid expansion through acquisitions and by the mid part of the century owned enough [[Habitats]] that it needed to employ its own security forces. By the end of the century it was a noticeable player in Belt politics.

Its continued expansion brought it into conflict with many of the other powers of the time. In the 46th Century tensions with the neighboring [[Paragons]] caused the [[Paragon-Dratch War]], a long last series and skirmishes and small wars. In 4608 the Paragons sued for peace and as part of the settlement the Dratch acquired a number of key stations.

Over the next few centuries Dratch stopped expanding and become one of the more stable power. However towards the end of the 49th Century the tensions between the Dratch and the other two main Belt powers led to the [[Tethys War]]. The war effectively ended once the three [[Powers]] had exhausted themselves. In the mid 50th Century Dratch collapsed into a set on independent territories and stations.
