The initial model was going to be a 50’s style smooth-bodied metal craft, drawing inspiration from the MIG-15 and F-86 Sabre. But could not get a metal skin that looked good so I eventually went for a painted surface. To keep things simple I did not have a different material for the engine pods and kept them fairly discrete. In fact I kept the surfaces fairly plain and only had the surface details provided with normal maps. The surface is blocky and no smoothing was applied, so this ends up looking very low-poly. And I went over the top with the dirt and grime.
